St Helens

St Helens, Merseyside - Via M62 or M6

Life in Merseyside does not just revolve around central Liverpool, if you want to see another great town why not visit St Helens. The town is about a 30mins drive along the M62 and is always worth a visit. The town started life as tiny hamlet back in the 14th century, but has since grew year on year to today boast a population of over 180,000 people. St Helens was, and to some extent still is one of the UK's premier industrial towns.

Though the once prosperous mines are now closed (thanks to our wonderful Mrs Thatcher), the town is still home to the worlds greatest glass manufacturer - Pilkingtons. Check out the history of this great company and even glass itself at the town's Glass Museum. If that ain't you're thing then head straight towards the town centre, sort yourself out with a nice steaming hot pie and then hit the boozers.

The town has some great pubs and the nightlife on a Saturday night is legendary. You can always take in bit of countryside (its surrounded with it) or if you're sports fan you can either hit the races at Haydock Park or catch a Rugby League match at the world renowned St Helens Rugby Club.
