Walker Art Gallery
William Brown Street, Liverpool City Centre
The Walker Art Gallery has one of the best regional collections of art outside London. Painters and sculptors from most genres and eras are well presented in this traditionally structured gallery which boasts the most beautiful interior of the all the Liverpool galleries - period furniture, hanging silks and marble sculpture. The gallery was originally supported by 19th century collectors who had made their riches via the city's prosperous port.
Works at the walker include:Rembrandt (Self Portrait); Christ Discovered (Simone Martini); Hogarth; Gainsborough; Stubbs; William Frederick Yeames; Rossetti (Dantes Dream); Lowry; David Hockney; The Walker also houses an excellent coffee shop next to the usual gallery shop.
